Union executive clear to attend court

A ruling was delivered today by Chief Justice Ian Kawaley on the impending legal action between the Bermuda Government and the Bermuda Trade Union Congress (BTUC).

Mr Justice Kawaley has found that while the unions attend the Supreme Court next week, it would not be necessary for all members to attend the hearings, which run from November 24 through 26.

The Chief Justice ruled that such a move would be impractical given the limited space of a courtroom. However, Mr Justice Kawaley agreed that the executive officers of each trade union should attend.

The decision was announced earlier tonight by the BTUC.
