A collection of Bermuda photographs will go on display at the Bermuda Society of Art this evening.

While nature photographer Chris Burville prefers not to manipulate his photographs, you can expect to see his unique perspective in the works.

He admits he will use digital tools for basic colour and contrast of the images but said: “I don’t ever change the reality of the image. I like to keep them to journalistic standards.”

The solo show will remain untitled. Mr Burville said he does not try to come up with “clever titles”. “I just let the pictures do the talking,” he said.

Those familiar with his work will recognise his signature underwater scenes and night photography.

“I’m always looking for something unique. That’s why I first started doing the night-time stuff, the long exposures with a tripod, I was always looking for uncommon subjects.”

When asked about his aerial photography, he preferred not to reveal his secrets in capturing the soaring perspective.

“I met some friendly aliens and they took me up in their spaceship,” he said. “Some days I have a very specific plan of what I’m going after. Other days I go out hoping for something interesting.”

He said he was always certain to have his camera gear on him.

“A lot of the stuff I shoot now, I do specifically plan out in detail. A lot of time and energy goes into capturing and understanding unique subjects.

“Sometimes you fail. Often you fail. But when it works it’s that much sweeter.”

The exhibit will run until December 8 in the Edinburgh Gallery.
