Otis Minors, the St David’s player-coach, bagged a brace in his side’s victory over ten-man Wolves in the FA Cup preliminary round at Devonshire Recreation Club last night.

The 39-year-old, who chooses to play only in the FA Cup, opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a close-range finish past Jahi Shakir, the Wolves goalkeeper.

Minors struck again in the 20th minute after a mix-up in the Wolves defence presented the experienced striker with a clear sight of goal, making no mistake with a clinical finish.

St David’s added a third on the half-hour mark through Shea Pitcher, who blasted into the roof of the net after some neat build-up play.

Wolves pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time when Mikael Ming fired a low left-footed shot past Sam Stevens, the St David’s goalkeeper.

After the break, St David’s resumed control and restored their three-goal advantage when Jamal Woodley, a second-half substitute, capitalised on a poor clearance from Koeshon Smith, the Wolves defender, rounding Shakir who had saved the striker’s initial effort.

Wolves were enjoying some moments of attacking intent, with Steven Bremar forcing a low save from Stevens before they were reduced to ten men after the sending off Sergio Richardson for dissent in the 74th minute.

In the 86th minute Ming added his second for Wolves with a left-footed finish as St David’s took there foot off the pedal.

Minors, St David’s two-goal hero, said he believed his side were well worth the victory.

“I thought we got a few chances because they made mistakes and we capitalised on them,” said Minors, whose side are still unbeaten in the First Division this season.

“I gave myself a little run tonight and just stayed calm when the chances came my way.”
