The author of Island Flames has donated $500 in book certificates to Government middle and secondary school libraries.

Jonathan Smith presented the book certificates to Wayne Scott, the Minister for Education, today.

“My objective was simply to share the success of Island Flames,” said Mr Smith. “What can be more meaningful than contributing to the public education system by ensuring that these donations go to encouraging the acquisition of Bermuda books for school libraries and to make them accessible to Bermudian students.

“Their learning stands to be enriched by reading a variety of works of local authors.”

Mr Scott thanked Mr Smith saying: “It is important from a historical and cultural perspective that our students have books about Bermuda readily available in their school libraries.”
