Dandy Town continued their push for the Premier Division title after sweeping aside Hamilton Parish at a rain-hit Wellington Oval yesterday.

Town ran out comfortable 5-1 winners against the league’s worst team, to retain their three-point lead at the top.

The title is slowly developing into a two-horse race, after the next three teams in the Premier Division, Devonshire Colts, Somerset Trojans and North Village, all dropped points this weekend.

At the rate Town are racking up the points they could have a fourth title in seven seasons wrapped up with games to spare.

The only unbeaten side left in the league, they are already six points ahead of third-placed Devonshire Colts who have played a game more, as have Somerset who are a further two points back in fourth.

Town were helped by two Parish own goals as they led 2-0 at half-time, before putting the match out of Parish’s reach in the second half.

“Defensively we got stuck in there, it’s unfortunate we let in a goal but it was a lack of focus,” Jomar Wilkinson, the Dandy Town coach, said.

“We have to continue to be focused for 90 minutes and the boys realise that. It was important to bounce back after they scored, but I thought we managed the game well after that, and was able to get a fourth and that kind of settled us down a bit more.

“Seion Darrell came on and did a superb job of keeping it tight at the back and making sure we finished the game on a high note.”

Robin Hood stopped league champions Somerset Trojans 4-1 on Saturday night as Lejuan Simmons struck a hat-trick at Goose Gosling Field, strengthening Hood’s grip on second place.

Kyle Lightbourne, the Robin Hood coach, was pleased with his team’s performance, who responded superbly after Johnny Bean gave Somerset Trojans the lead after only six minutes.

“We did what we needed to do, Somerset came out of the blocks and got their goal,” Lightbourne said. “The system they were playing was causing a bit of a problem and I just flipped my midfielders around for a short period and we got a foot in the game.

“We scored goals at a good time, we scored right before half-time and then right after half-time.”

Hood lead Colts by three points and with a game in hand after Boulevard held Colts to a 1-1 draw at Police Field to stay above the relegation zone. Boulevard held a 1-0 lead at the break before Colts hit back to earn a point in the battle of the two promoted sides.

“We went up and I thought we were going to hold on against Colts, who were not at their best today in terms of the personnel they had,” Shaki Worrell, the Boulevard assistant coach, said.

“I was disappointed to concede even though we had lost a man, which is something that has been hurting us from time to time.

“This was another example of us leading the game and then just laying down.

“We were really looking forward to three points coming into this match, and there is a level of disappointment that we only got a one point from it.”

PHC picked up their first win since winning the Dudley Eve Trophy earlier this month, beating neighbours Southampton Rangers 4-2 in yesterday’s other match.

The Zebras moved ahead of Rangers on goal difference, both teams have nine points from seven matches, ten behind the league leaders.
