Post Office: Labour dispute still ongoing

The Bermuda Post Office has asked West End residents to be patient as they work to resolve what they describe as an ongoing labour dispute.

A Post Office spokesman this afternoon said: “The BPO wishes to advise residents on routes SN01 and SN02 that the labour dispute with the Bermuda Industrial Union has not yet been resolved and, in this regard, we are asking those residents to continue to collect their mail from the Southampton Post Office for a little longer, until the matter is resolved.

“The BPO apologises for any inconvenience this dispute is causing the public.”

Service on the two postal routes was suspended in November with a Post Office spokesperson citing a labour dispute. The BIU however responded that the reduction in service was caused by the retirement of a staff member rather than a labour dispute.

While the union acknowledged that it was in talks with the Post Master General about the redeployment of staff which had been referred to the Department of Workforce Development, they said it was a separate issue to that at the Southampton Post Office.
