Why is that van covered in paper?

An office supplies company is publicising its new catalogue with a van covered in Post-it notes.

The AF Smith van will tour the city and surrounding districts until the end of the week to hand out catalogues and promote the firm.

And Sophia Araujo, director of marketing at AF Smith, said the promotion was linked to competitions offering prizes including a $100 credit in the store and an Apple TV.

Ms Araujo said: “It’s been great publicity — people have called us and said it’s a great idea and that they hadn’t seen anything like it on the Island.”

As guessing the number of Post-it notes used to decorate the van is one of the competitions, Ms Araujo declined to say how many thousands had been used.

But she added: “It took three of us five hours to cover the van. But it was definitely worth it and it was fun doing it as well.”

Ms Araujo said: “We wanted to do something different to launch out 2016 catalogue this year.

“We decided to do it with Post-it notes because everybody uses them to spread a message.”

Customers who guess the correct number of Post-it notes on the van will win a $100 AF Smith credit.

And the firm has picked 40 items from the more than 25,000 products in the catalogue for a 15 per cent discount.

Ms Araujo said: “If people order from these items between now and the end of this month, they will be entered into a draw to win either a Fitbit watch, Beats Pill speakers or an Apple TV.”

She added that, because the firm is located out of the city centre, in Tumkins Lane, off Woodlands Road in Pembroke, some people were unaware of the range of products the company carried.

She said: “We have a retail space selling products they didn’t know we have, like furniture, printers and cleaning and breakroom supplies.”

The firm also stocks items from the Apple and Go Pro camera ranges, as well as the new 3Doodler, the world’s first 3D printing pen.
