Mixed starts for Dillas and Walker

Dillas is in action at the Latin American Amateur Championships

Bermuda pair Jarryd Dillas and Walker Campbell carded scores of 77 and 80 in the opening round of the Latin American Amateur Championships at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic yesterday.

Dillas, who shot an eagle on the par-5 14th and a birdie on the par-5 11th, completed the front nine on five-over-par 41 after shooting two double-bogeys on the third and fourth holes.

He added another on the 15th to go with two bogeys in the round as he steadied his game on the back nine to shoot an even par to finish five over for the round.

Dillas is one of nine players tied in 64th.

Campbell finished eight-over and is tied 88th after day one, his round including double bogeys on the par-5 3rd and par-4 8th as he completed the front nine four over.

Campbell also shot 40 on the back nine where he had a birdie on the 14th, and five bogeys.

Alvaro Ortiz of Mexico and Ecuador’s Jose Andres Miranda are the joint leaders on four under, one stroke ahead of three other players.

n The 2017 Latin America Amateur Championship will be held at Panama City’s Club de Golf de Panama.
