Man, 34, banned from roads for drink-driving

A 34-year-old Sandys man has been fined and banned from the roads for drink-driving.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Wayne Hill admitted driving while impaired on Middle Road in Southampton on Friday.

The court heard that police officers attended a single-vehicle road traffic accident at about 11.30pm.

Hill’s vehicle was found facing north across both lanes of the road.

The officers spoke to the defendant, who was being detained by an off-duty police officer at a nearby residence.

Hill admitted drinking and driving, was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

He told the court today that he had been under a lot of stress and made a “dumb mistake”.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed Hill a $1,200 fine and banned him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

He also fined Hill $300 for speeding in October last year and ordered him to pay $1,050 in outstanding fines before being released.
