Residents’ anger at ‘eyesore’ trash heap

Dumping ground: mattresses, furniture and trash have been left outside a home on Twin Lane South, Hamilton Parish(Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Furniture, mattresses and trash have been dumped outside a Hamilton Parish property, prompting residents to brand the area an “eyesore”.

It is unclear why the mounds of discarded household goods have been left in front of the home on Twin Lane South.

But residents told The Royal Gazette they were fed up of walking passed the dumped material, which they say has been there since before Christmas.

They are urging the property owner or the owner of the furniture to clear the mess.

“It’s worse than Pembroke dump,” said one resident, who asked not to be named. “Everyone in the neighbourhood is just fed up with looking at it.

“It’s been this way for weeks and it does not look like anyone has done anything about it. It is spoiling the neighbourhood at the moment and it is a danger to everyone who walks passed it.

“We just want it cleared. We are not quite sure how it ended up there, but it would appear the furniture was dumped outside when the former occupants left.

“But we don’t really know who is responsible.”

Constituency MP Wayne Furbert told The Royal Gazette he was now aware of the situation and was trying to determine who was responsible.

“It’s a difficult situation given that this has happened on private property,” Mr Furbert said. “This obviously restricts what we can do as MPs.

“However, I will be talking with residents in a bid to find out what has happened and who we can contact to resolve the situation.”
