Flanagan’s Onions and Somerset Eagles maintained their push for promotion in the First Division with victories at the weekend.

Onions beat Ireland Rangers 3-1 at home on Saturday night and Eagles defeated Paget 4-0 away yesterday to remain as the joint leaders on 23 points, while St David’s dropped two places from third when they were beaten 3-1 at home by Young Men’s Social Club.

St George’s climbed ahead of St David’s on Friday with a 2-1 win away to Wolves with Jarazinho Bassett scoring twice, including their winner in stoppage time.

Bassett headed home a cross from the left in the third minute of eight minutes of stoppage time to earn St George’s the win. He also put them in front in the seventh minute with a shot from outside of the box that took a deflection.

However, Wolves hit back in the 44th minute through Kyle Brangman whose shot from inside the area also took a deflection.

BAA Wanderers earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over X-Roads in the First Division at Goose Gosling Field yesterday.

The visiting side took the lead in the twelfth minute through Khomani Talbot before BAA drew level when Malachi Jones scored from the penalty spot in the 28th minute.

Two goals from Jahkari Furbert, in the 45th and 50th minutes, pulled BAA further ahead but Jammin Furbert pulled a goal back for X-Roads in the 56th minute.

Joint leaders Somerset Eagles remained on course for promotion after an emphatic 4-0 victory over home side Paget Lions at Southampton Oval yesterday.

Davin Riley-Clarke gave the visiting side the lead in the 23rd minute when he tapped in from close range.

Kanhai Fray doubled Eagles’s advantage when he converted in the 55th minute to apply the finishing touch to a counter attack.

Nathan Rego put the match further beyond Paget’s reach when he fired home from close range in the 63rd minute.

Rego grabbed a second goal and Eagles’s fourth in the 83rd minute with a shot from the edge of the penalty area that took a deflection.
