Michael Dunkley has thanked Bermuda’s French Consul for her help following the November 13 attacks in Paris, which saw 130 people killed.

Nicole Haziza aided the Premier in his correspondence with President Francois Hollande in the wake of a coordinated terrorist attack on the capital.

The perpetrators opened fire at a concert by rock band The Eagles of Death Metal, as well as in several restaurants.

Meanwhile, Mr Hollande was evacuated from the Stade de France sports stadium, after three bombs exploded outside the venue during a friendly football match between France and Germany.

In a letter to his counterpart, Mr Dunkley said that the people of Bermuda “share the distress, the sadness and the horror” of the people of France.

“We live far apart but share the values of freedom, democracy and brotherhood that France has championed throughout its modern history,” added Mr Dunkley, who offered prayers for the victims and their families.

In his response letter, Mr Hollande thanked the Premier for his support following the “cowardly and despicable” attacks.

“During these particularly difficult times, messages of friendship and solidarity received from around the world, such as yours today, are a precious help in our fight against hate and barbarity.”
