Two men have been fined and taken off the roads for a year for failing to provide samples of breath for analysis.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, 61-year-old Dennis Deshields, of Devonshire, pleaded guilty to the offence that took place in Pembroke on January 12.

The court heard that police attended a two-vehicle collision at the junction of Court Street and King Street at about 6.20pm.

Deshields was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he refused to provide a sample of breath for analysis.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo handed him an $800 fine and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 12 months.

In another matter, 64-year-old Gladwin Dill, of Sandys, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath sample in Pembroke on Saturday.

Prosecutor Garrett Byrne said Dill was stopped by police after running a red light on Church Street.

He was also arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he refused to provide a breath sample for analysis.

Mr Tokunbo fined Dill $800 and disqualified him from driving for a year.
