Workers have a head for heights

View from the top: workers remove rusted railings from the top of City Hall (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

The tower at the top of City Hall in Hamilton may not be open to the public — but repair work on the structure was very much in the public eye this week.

A crane right to the top was needed to bring down a railing that had grown “a bit shaky” with corrosion, according to Patrick Cooper, the city engineer.

It was brought down to be either fixed or replaced.

While the view is impressive, the tower is strictly for work access.

The high point over Hamilton included antennae for telecommunications providers, Mr Cooper said.
