Simmons wary of free-scoring Boulevard

Double mission: Simmons, right, faces his former club Boulevard in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the weekend

Angelo Simmons, the Dandy Town captain, has warned his team-mates not to take his former club Boulevard Blazers lightly when the two sides meet in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday.

The match at St John’s Field will pit two of the Island’s most in-form teams against each other for the right to advance to the last four of the competition.

Town, the FA Cup champions, will go into the game as the favourites.

However, Simmons is taking nothing for granted, and rightfully so after Boulevard’s crushing 6-2 defeat of nine-times FA Cup holders Somerset Trojans in the previous round.

“Boulevard are one of the form teams and have a very nice, strong team, and so we have to come to the game prepared for war because it’s a derby,” said Simmons, who netted in Town’s 2-1 Premier Division victory away to PHC last weekend.

“Anything can happen because it’s FA Cup, and so we’re staying mentally and physically ready for it and hopefully we can push on and get the win.”

With a commanding nine-point advantage over nearest rivals Robin Hood in the Premier Division, Town remain firmly on course for an eighth league title and Simmons said achieving the league and FA Cup double would be a huge achievement.

“The double is still there for the taking and we just have to take it one game at a time and not get carried away,” Simmons said.

“We want the double and everybody is determined, hungry and ready to push on all the way.”

Boulevard are expected to be at full strength while Town will be forced to tweak their line-up from the one that beat PHC Zebras in the team’s previous outing.

Damon Ming, the Town forward, is serving a one-match suspension after being sent off against PHC while fellow forwards Drewonde Bascome and Quadir Maynard remain doubtful.

Bascome, the Bermuda player experienced respiratory difficulties in his team’s match with PHC and was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was treated and released the same day. Maynard limped off with a groin strain moments after scoring Town’s winner against PHC.

Two players expected to return to Town’s line-up are defenders Kwonde Lathan and Dominque Williams who missed their team’s last match through injury, while there is a slight chance that Dominque Lambert, the striker, could also be back from injury.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s remaining FA Cup quarter-final matches pit three-times champions Young Men’s Social Club, the sole remaining First Division club in the competition, against Devonshire Cougars in the first match of a double header at PHC Field.

Ten-times champions PHC will take on Southampton Rangers in the other match at PHC Field, while Hamilton Parish face Robin Hood at Wellington Oval.

Social Club against Devonshire Cougars starts at 12.30pm while all remaining matches start at 2.30pm.
