Immediate impact from Brangman

No way through: Cougars were just too strong for their First Division opponents at PHC Field (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Lamont Brangman came off the bench to score a maiden hat-trick in top-flight football as Devonshire Cougars made light work of First Division Young Men’s Social Club in the FA Cup quarter-final at PHC Field yesterday.

Brangman entered the fray in the 73rd minute with Cougars cruising at 2-0 and converted in the 75th, 81st and 90th minutes to kill the game off.

Jordan Darrell scored Cougars other two goals, the left back’s first for his new club since transferring from St George’s Colts.

Social Club started the brighter of the two sides with Clay Darrell, the midfielder, placing a free header wide and Saki Tuzo, the lone striker, just failing to connect with Darrell’s inviting cross.

Cougars eventually settled down and after stretching Social Club apart took the lead for good when Jordan Darrell scored from close range after Social Club failed to clear their lines.

The visiting side nearly doubled their lead early in the second half, Shervin Jennings, the Social Club goalkeeper, rushing off his line to save at the feet of Kwame Steede, the Cougars-player coach.

The turning point in the match came when Darrell squandered a breakaway, the midfielder taking one touch too many rather than pulling the trigger with only Kioshi Trott, the Cougars goalkeeper, to beat.

Darrell’s missed opportunity came back to bite Social Club as his Cougars namesake doubled the visiting side’s lead on the hour mark after latching onto a diagonal pass, riding a tackle and slotting inside the far post.

Brangman then took over, netting a hat-trick inside of fifteen minutes.

The forward opened his account in spectacular fashion after chipping Jennings from 30-yards to pull Cougars further ahead and then grabbed a second six minutes later with a tap-in at the back post.

Brangman then completed his treble in the last minute of regulation with another effort from close range as Social Club again paid the price for some loose defending.
