Companies with no health insurance named

A number of employers have been publicly listed by the Bermuda Health Council as having inactive or terminated health insurance.

Since last June, the BHeC has been publishing the names of employers who do not have insurance for their employees on their website in an effort to movitate them to become compliant with the Health Insurance Act.

The legislation requires that employers provide an active health insurance policy with a licensed insurer for him or herself, all employees and their non-employed spouses.

Of the 15 employers named last year, 11 have since become compliant. However, as of yesterday afternoon, two companies included in the original list of non-compliant employers — Inner Harbour Ltd and Tamerry Dental Healthcare Centre — remain on the list as having terminated insurance policies.

Six other employers have joined them on the list, which was updated yesterday.

Januazi’s and Jazzy Boutique were both listed as having terminated policies, while Bermy Cuisine, Cornerstone Academy, Little Sprouts Nursery and Sabai Thai and Massage Centre were all listed as having inactive health insurance policies.

According to the BHeC, the employers will remain listed on the website until they provide proof that they have an active health insurance plan.

Last week, the organisation stated that 2,115 workers had regained health insurance over the past year and more than $700,000 in health premiums were recovered.
