Administrator appointed to Summerhaven

Summerhaven Residential Home for the Physically Challenged.

An administrator has been appointed to address recent concerns raised about Summerhaven Residential Home for the Physically Challenged.

The administrator, who will be appointed by the Ministry of Health, Seniors and Environment, will be in place for three months from February 16 before a permanent administrator is chosen by the private facility’s board.

The move followed “extensive dialogue and collaboration” with the Registrar General and the board of the Summerhaven Trust, according to a statement released by the ministry tonight.

“The role of the ministry’s appointed administrator will be to ensure that the facility is registered and in compliance with the Residential Care Homes and Nursing Homes Act 1999,” a ministry spokesman said.

“This will include meeting registration standards with respect to administrative and clinical personnel, safety, diet, and clinical and administrative records.

“The ministry’s administrator will be in place for three months, starting February 16 and will ensure a permanent administrator is appointed by the Board.

“The ministry is grateful to the Summerhaven board for its co-operation and looks forward to the facility’s continued operation in full compliance with the law, so it may deliver high-quality services to its residents.”
