The Liberian tanker Sigma Triumph is being diverted to Bermuda so an ill crew member can be taken to hospital.

The crew member has been suffering from abdominal pain since Monday.

The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was contacted at about 8pm this evening by the Meyer Shipping Agency to report that the vessel was inbound to Bermuda.

The tanker, originally about 175 miles southwest of the island, is due to arrive off the East End at 9.30am tomorrow and the pilot boat St David will collect the crew member.

Sigma Triumph , which was travelling from Algeria to the US Gulf, has been in contact with medical staff on shore and no improvement in the patient’s condition has been reported despite the administration of medicines available on board.
