BSX edges higher

Edging higher: Butterfield shares rose last week to boost The Royal Gazette/BSX Index

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index edged higher last week as a 1.8 per cent increase in the shares of Butterfield Bank outweighed the impact of three declining domestic-board stocks.

The index closed the week on 1,791.65 — having briefly passed the 1,800 mark on Tuesday — after gaining 8.27 points, or 0.46 per cent, during the five days of trading.

Butterfield gained 50 cents to close on $28.50 as 17,728 shares traded.

KeyTech suffered the biggest fall among the declining stocks, the telecommunications group dipping 70 cents, or 23.7 per cent, to close the week on $2.25 as 1,500 shares traded.

Ascendant Group Ltd, owner of power utility Belco, slipped 20 cents, or 2.9 per cent, to close on $6.75.

Insurer BF&M Ltd also slipped 35 cents, or 1.7 per cent, to close the week on $20.

Share volume for the week totalled 24,876, while turnover was $546,447.50.
