BSX Index gains nearly 100 points

Climbing high: The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed more than 5 per cent last week

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained more than 5 per cent last week, buoyed by big increases in the share prices of KeyTech Ltd and Butterfield Bank.

KeyTech, the telecommunications firm that owns One Communications, gained 70 cents, or 31.1 per cent, to close on $2.95 in the week that it announced an $8 million half-year profit. The big move came on trading volume of 23,300 shares.

Butterfield gained $2, or 7 per cent, to close the week on $30.50 as 1,518 shares traded. There is still some catching up to do with the bank’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares, which ended the week at $31.77.

There was also significant trading in insurer BF&M Ltd, which finished the week unchanged on $20 as 7,800 shares changed hands, and Ascendant Group, owner of power utility Belco, which also remained unchanged on $6.75 as 23,300 shares traded.

At the close on Friday, the index stood at 1,891.21, up 99.56 points, or 5.26 per cent. Trading volume was 50,918 shares and turnover was $390,949.
