The Bank of Butterfield dropped 20 cents to $31.10 on the first day’s trading of the year on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

The fall, equal to 0.6 per cent, came after 661 shares traded.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank went up 16 cents, or 0.51 per cent, to $31.60.

Utilities firm Ascendant Group rose 35 cents, or 5.2 per cent, to $7.10 after 188 shares sold.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index went up 5.62 points or 0.29 per cent to 1,918.17.

The BSX Insurance Index rose 0.14 points, or 0.01 per cent, to 1,770.87.
