Shares of Butterfield Bank and BF&M improved, lifting The Royal Gazette/BSX Index 37.18 points, or 1.87 per cent, to close at 2,028.96.

Insurer BF&M added 45 cents, or 2.2 per cent, to close at $20.95 after 1,000 traded.

Butterfield rose 75 cents, or 2.3 per cent to close at $33.50 after 1,400 changed hands. On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank’s shares rose 43 cents, or 1.27 per cent, to $34.30.

The BSX Insurance Index slipped 10.62 points, or 0.57 per cent to 1,860.72.
