BSX launches investor education guide

Campaign: the BSX is trying to raise awareness of domestic investment opportunities through the "Own Your Share of Bermuda" drive

The Bermuda Stock Exchange has launched a guide for new investors.

The Investor Education Guide is part of the BSX’s drive to encourage island residents to invest in the stock market.

Greg Wojciechowski, president and CEO of the BSX, said: “The guide provides information on the types of securities available on the BSX and seeks to explain basic investment principles in a straightforward and simple manner.

“It also offers guidance on how to open a local trading account.”

Mr Wojciechowski stressed that the guide was not intended to provide investment advice, or be a solicitation to invest.

He said it was intended to familiarise new investors with investment terminology and give them a sound grounding before opening talks with investment professionals.

Mr Wojciechowski added: “Anyone wishing to invest in the domestic stock market must first open an account with a local broker and it is up to the brokerage firm to provide investment advice.”

The guide can be found under the “Related Media” section of this webpage and online at www.bsx.com.

The printable PDF version is located under the BSX Information tab: http://www.bsx.com/pdf/BSX-Investor-Education-Guide-09MAR17.pdf and the online version is located on the BSX front page at http://www.bsx.com/IEG/index.html.

The guide is expected to be available on BSX member sites in coming months and print copies of the guide can be obtained one free of charge by visiting the BSX at their headquarters at 30 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
