Utilities fare better than financials

Down week: financials weighed on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index last week

Utilities fared well while financial-services companies did not in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading last week.

Ascendant Group, the owner of power company Belco, was the market’s best performer, gaining 30 cents, or 4.2 per cent, to close on a 52-week high of $7.50, as 1,000 shares changed hands.

One Communications Ltd also had a good week, gaining 10 cents, or 4 per cent, to close at $2.60, as 16,276 shares changed hands.

Insurer Argus Group Ltd suffered a sharp fall, dipping 47 cents, or 10 per cent, to close the week on $4.23 as 17,000 shares changed hands.

Butterfield Bank dipped $1.50, or 4.6 per cent, as 128 shares traded, while Somers Ltd, owner of Bermuda Commercial Bank, slipped 25 cents, or 1.9 per cent, to $13 as 1,000 shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 74.25 points, or 3.86 per cent, to close on 1,920.12. Trading volume for the five days totalled 43,036 shares, while turnover was $179,612.20.
