Somers the big winner on BSX

Positive week: shares of Somers Ltd, owner of BCB, rose 4 per cent last week on the BSX

Somers Ltd was the big winner in a quiet week of trading on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.

The financial-services holding company and owner of Bermuda Commercial Bank gained 50 cents, or 4 per cent, to rebound from its 52-week low and close last Friday at $13, as 212 shares changed hands.

Butterfield Bank was the most actively traded stock, with 1,900 shares being exchanged, as the bank’s share price remained unchanged through last week on its 52-week high of $34.

While the BSX was closed for the National Heroes Day holiday yesterday, Butterfield’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares were trading and closed down 34 cents, or nearly 1 per cent for the day, at $34.61.

The only other domestic stock traded last week was that of Ascendant Group, which closed unchanged on $7.51 as 60 of the Belco owner’s shares changed hands.

Among the international companies listed, 2,500 shares of HSBC Holdings were traded at $8.65.

Trading volume totalled 4,672 shares, while turnover was just over $89,000.
