Ascendant the biggest gainer

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 48.88 points last week to close at 2,071.81

Ascendant Group shares had the strongest week among stocks on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. The parent company of Belco, saw its shares improve $1.44, or 19.2 per cent, to $8.95 after 2,000 were traded during the week.

Butterfield Bank also improved by 80 cents, or 2.4 per cent, to $34.30 after 7,518 shares changed hands. On the New York Stock Exchange, the bank’s shares ended the week at $35.

Meanwhile, on the local exchange, Argus Group ended the week down five cents, or 1.2 per cent, at $4.20 after 3,300 shares were traded.

Some 20,410 shares of BF&M, and 7,200 shares of Somers Ltd were exchanged, but both stocks ended the week with their closing price unchanged.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 48.88 points, or 2.36 per cent, at 2,070.81.

The BSX Insurance Index also ended higher, rising 7.61 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 1,928.05.
