Ascendant and Butterfield climb

Butterfield and Ascendant shares rose to lift The Royal Gazette/BSX Index

Shares of Butterfield Bank and Ascendant Group rose today as The Royal Gazette/BSX Index climbed for the seventh day in a row.

Ascendant, owner of power utility Belco, gained 40 cents, or 4.7 per cent, to close on $9 as 7,000 of its shares traded.

Butterfield climbed 5 cents, or 0.1 per cent, to $35.25, as 2,200 shares changed hands. The bank’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares also gained, climbing 23 cents, or 0.6 per cent, to close on $36.12.

The BSX Index added 6.11 points, or 0.3 per cent, to close on 2,104.57. Trading volume totalled 9,200 shares and turnover amounted to $140,562.

The BSX Insurance Index gained 2.67 points to close on 1,844.07.
