Watlington shares gain 6%

Rises in the share prices of Butterfield and Watlington Waterworks drove The Royal Gazette/BSX Index higher

Shares of Watlington Waterworks Ltd and Butterfield Bank gained in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

Watlington climbed $1.50, or 6 per cent, to close on $26.50 as 2,430 shares changed hands.

Butterfield added $1.50, or 3.3 per cent, to end the day on $47.50 on the trading of 2,175 shares.

The bank’s New York-listed shares soared $2.24, or 4.8 per cent to close on $48.62, on a day when Wall Street suffered a broad-based decline.

This came after Butterfield reported a rise in net income for the first quarter on Monday evening.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 68.94 points, or 2.7 per cent, to close on 2,642.79.

BSX trading volume was 4,605 shares and turnover totalled $167,660.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 12.1 points, or 0.6 per cent, to close on 1,886.79.
