Three stocks rise on BSX

Somers, Ascendant and BF&M advanced on the BSX

Shares of Somers Ltd, Ascendant Group Ltd and BF&M Ltd all rose in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

Financial-services holding company Somers, parent company of Bermuda Commercial Bank, surged $1, or 6.6 per cent, to $16.25 on low volume, as 400 shares were traded.

BF&M was the most heavily traded stock, as 20,214 shares changed hands. The insurer gained 3 cents to close on $17.78.

Ascendant, the parent company of Belco, gained 15 cents, or 0.9 per cent, on the trading of 100 shares, to close on $16.25.

Butterfield Bank did not trade on the BSX, but its US-listed shares gained 45 cents, or 0.95 per cent, to close on $47.81 in New York.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 8.33 points, or 0.31 per cent, to close on 2,680.34. Trading volume totalled 20,742 shares, while turnover was $367,606.70.

The BSX Insurance Index climbed 30.82 points, or 1.7 per cent, to close on 1,839.31.
