BAS shares plunge 21% in light trade

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 2.09 points

Shares of Bermuda Aviation Services lost more than a fifth of their value on low volume in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading yesterday.

BAS closed on $1.70, down by 45 cents, or 20.9 per cent, as 500 of its shares changed hands.

Ascendant Group Ltd was the most actively traded issue, with 26,117 shares traded as the owner of power utility Belco closed unchanged on $17.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 2.09 points, or 0.07 per cent, to close on 2,899.27.

Among international companies on the BSX, HSBC Holdings fell 40 cents, or 4.73 per cent, to close on $8.05 as 1,772 shares changed hands.

The BSX Insurance Index gained 14.71 points, or 0.98 per cent, to close on 1,513.62.

Shares of Butterfield Bank did not trade on the BSX, but in New York the bank’s US-listed shares gained 89 cents, or 1.7 per cent, to close on $53.11.
