Argus and Polaris shares fall on BSX

One Communications Ltd was the only stock to gain ground on the Bermuda Stock Exchange

Argus Group Holdings shares fell 9.7 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The insurer shed 35 cents to fall to $3.25 as 22,685 shares changed hands.

Polaris Holding Company, parent company of Hamilton docks operator Stevedoring Services, fell 50 cents, or 7.1 per cent, to close on $6.50 as 14,000 of its shares traded.

For Polaris, it was a matter of giving back some of the gains achieved in trading earlier in the week, when the stock leapt $2, or 40 per cent.

One Communications Ltd was the only stock to climb on the BSX. The telecoms group added one cent, or 0.3 per cent, to close on a new 52-week high of $3.47 as 10,000 of its shares changed hands.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 7.45 points, or 0.34 per cent, to close on 2,190.8.

BSX trading volume totalled 46,685 shares and turnover was $199,424.85.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 5.61 points, or 0.38 per cent, to close on 1,467.32.

Meanwhile Butterfield Bank revealed that it had spent $13.43 million on repurchasing 360,000 of its own shares at an average price of $37.31 during the month of March.

On the New York Stock Exchange, Butterfield’s US-listed shares fell two cents to close on $36.43.
