Banking shares did well on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. Butterfield Bank was up 75 cents, or 1.9 per cent, at $39.25 after 4,439 traded, while HSBC Holdings improved 30 cents, or 3.68 per cent, to $8.45 after 1,000 changed hands.

Shares of BF&M Ltd were up five cents, or 0.3 per cent, at $16.30 after 45,000 were exchanged.

In New York, shares of Butterfield Bank were up 64 cents, or 1.63 per cent, at $39.92.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 34.11 points, or 1.47 per cent, at 2,356.75. The BSX Insurance Index was up 9.01 points, or 0.59 per cent, at 1,532.49.
