Nikki Bascome’s bout with Portugal’s Fabio Costa at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday night will be streamed live on the internet on pay-per-view.

Promoters Extreme Entertainment have introduced pay-per-view to accommodate fans who were unable to purchase tickets for the “Undefeated” fight card, which is already sold out.

“As there is still a large demand for tickets we are doing something that’s never been done before in the local boxing field, which is to stream live worldwide on pay-per-view at Undefeated,” an Extreme Entertainment official told The Royal Gazette. “That site is up and running now. It’s streaming on the internet, so that means you can watch it on your phone or wherever you may have internet access.”

The cost for pay-per-view is $49.99 and can be purchased with either debit or credit card.

Tickets for the fight card, pitting Bermudian boxers against Portuguese opponents, sold out more than a week in advance of the event.

It also features four amateur boxing matches across three weight divisions, youth boxing, kick-boxing and the Bermuda Combat Club Submission Grappling Middleweight Championships.

“We believe it’s a classic and perfect mix of two countries that have a deep, rich history of merging together,” the Extreme Entertainment official added.

“We did have great expectations, as we invested a lot of capital into this event and you can only get out what you put in.

“We do have another classic event pending and the public will be privy to that information at this event.”

The introduction of pay-per-view and streaming local boxing events live on the internet falls within the company’s mandate of enhancing and promoting local sports.

“Extreme Entertainment has a very key mission on enhancing and promoting the sport of boxing, as well as other sports in Bermuda,” the official said.

“We take great pleasure in bringing new innovative things, such as the seating plan, which is digital and created with the assistance of Ptix.bm for the boxing event.

“It is the first time you can tick your seat online and know exactly where you are sitting and your wristbands will match your seat number.

“The level of investment and co-ordination gone into this event is enormous and we have a team that we are very thankful for.

“It’s been a community effort, actually. It’s a great privilege to have such community support with this event. We put a lot into our events as we strive to change the standards of entertainment in Bermuda.”

Meanwhile, Andre Lambe, Bascome’s stablemate who is also fighting on Saturday, and Allan “Forty” Rego, who trains both Bermudian boxers, will be greeted by local dignitaries upon their arrival at the airport today at 2.15pm from a training camp in Orlando, Florida.

“The Premier will be there along with the sports minister and the Gombeys,” the Extreme Entertainment official said. “And we are inviting the general public to the airport to welcome Nikki, Andre and Mr Forty Rego and give them a hero’s welcome that they deserve.”
