MDM hires two lawyers

New lawyers: attorneys Dantae Williams, left, and Saul Dismont have joined the legal team at Marshall Diel & Myers

Law firm Marshall, Diel and Myers has hired two new lawyers.

Saul Dismont and Dantae Williams have both joined MDM as associates in the litigation and advice team.

MDM said Mr Dismont will focus on his specialised practice in assisting vulnerable people.

The University of Law in England graduate has, through legal challenges, halted the practice of sending child defendants to prison and secured the early release of minors already imprisoned.

Mr Dismont, who has competed training for the English children’s law accreditation scheme and is the only lawyer in Bermuda appointed by the courts to represent children in child and family matters.

He is also the first lawyer to represent psychiatric patients at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute who want to challenge their involuntary detention.

Mr Williams, who completed a history degree at Oakwood College in the US, before taking a law degree at Britain’s University of Manchester, has appeared in all the main courts, including the Court of Appeal.

He is a member of the Legal Aid subcommittee and sat on a committee looking at reform of criminal sentencing guidelines in Magistrates’ Court.

Marshall, Diel and Myers director Adam Richards said: “We have no doubt that Saul and Dantae will be valuable additions to our dynamic team and will further enhance our ability to serve our clients’ varied legal needs.”
