Students interested in learning more about accounting and actuarial opportunities with PwC Bermuda are welcome to attend the company's annual HeadStart Student Networking reception on July 26.

PwC's current 14 interns will be at the event. They have taken part in hands-on, practical learning experiences this summer, rotating through teams such as insurance and reinsurance, asset management, private client services, actuarial services, captive insurance, tax, marketing and human capital.

The interns received training and on-the-job coaching to gain experience in audit and accounting, professionalism in the workplace, public speaking and team building activities. These team building activities included a day at the Paget Island ropes course and intern development days on Fridays.

Later this month the interns will participate in the Centre of Philanthropy's Intern Community Day at the Bermuda Zoological Society.

At the end of the summer the interns will present to PwC's partners and directors on projects related to the firm's strategies on corporate social responsibility, diversity and flexibility.

Georgia Morrison is a student at Bentley University, Massachusetts, and is also one of the interns. She said: “I have really enjoyed my second year in the HeadStart programme. I have had the opportunity to gain experience with different teams in the firm and get an understanding what industry I would like to go into after graduation.

“Our intern Fridays have provided valuable information about being a young professional and working with the 13 other interns on our partner presentations and team building exercises has created a fun and encouraging atmosphere.

“I really recommend students who want to learn more about the programme to come out to the networking event, it is a great way to get a feel for what we do throughout our time at PwC and an informal way to connect with leaders in the industry.”

Since the internship programme's inception the company has hired 74 full-time Bermudian associates, and in the last five years 28 of the associates from the programme have obtained their designation through completion of their CPA examinations.

At the networking reception, students will have the opportunity to meet the current interns, together with PwC associates and partners.

David Gibbons, PwC Bermuda partner and leader of the HeadStart programme, said: “PwC Bermuda is committed to developing talented, young Bermudians to their full potential with their personal career goals in mind. The programme is not only about accounting, it is about developing your personal brand and building relationships with your colleagues in the industry. Our networking reception will provide a unique insight into the culture at PwC and the opportunities that are available through our HeadStart programme.

“We look forward to meeting many talented Bermudian students there.”

The HeadStart Student Networking reception will take place at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club from 5.30pm until 7.30pm.
