Marshall earns chartered director status

Allan Marshall

Businessman Allan Marshall is the third member of the island branch of the Institute of Directors to achieve chartered director status.

He said: “Achieving the chartered director designation has been a goal of mine since I became a member of the of the IoD Bermuda branch, but it would not have been possible without the vision of the IoD executive, previously led by Roger Gillet, and now Rochelle Simons, to partner with the IoD London and thereby gain access to their training and professional development programmes for local directors.

“These programmes offer Bermuda-based directors the ability to enhance their knowledge and skill set to improve boardroom deliberations which can only benefit a company’s performance and its stakeholders.

“Better qualified and trained directors also enhances Bermuda’s reputation as a leading offshore jurisdiction, so I would encourage persons who serve as directors to avail themselves of these professional development and training resources through IoD Bermuda membership.”

Mr Marshall is a non-executive director of companies in the investment management and trust industries.

He became a board member of the Bermuda Monetary Authority in 2013 and is now deputy chairman.

Ms Simons, chairman of the Bermuda IoD, said: “We are delighted with Allan’s result. When Allan began the programme, it was clear that chartered director status was the ultimate goal. He completed the certificate in company direction and diploma in company direction designations in 2015 and 2016, respectively.”

She added: “This is great moment for Allan and the Bermuda branch.”

The 2017-18 IoD Bermuda director development programme begins in September with a two-day governance course called the role of the director and the board.
