PwC Bermuda is partnering with the Financial Times to host a major insurance conference in November.

The involvement of one of the world’s leading business publications with the conference reflects well on the island’s standing as a centre of business and innovation, Arthur Wightman, PwC Bermuda leader, said.

The PwC Insurance Summit, presented by the Financial Times, will take place on November 1, 2018 at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club.

More than 200 industry leaders, experts, and professionals are expected to attend, to discuss trends and strategies to adapt and innovate in the fast evolving insurance and reinsurance market.

After 12 successful years of the PwC S&P Bermuda Reinsurance conference, PwC will now host the summit as a stand-alone annual industry forum.

Its new partner — the Financial Times — is a leading global media brand with a record paying readership of over 910,000.

Mr Wightman said: “We are excited to partner with the Financial Times. Recognised internationally for its authority, integrity and accuracy in reporting, the FT’s support and involvement in our event speaks incredibly highly of Bermuda’s reputation as a globally leading, innovative reinsurance centre with an internationally respected regulatory regime.

“Working with the FT will ensure our firm’s significant annual investment in hosting a high-impact Bermuda insurance forum delivers on our brand and business needs and offers attendees a dynamic and engaging format with a distinguished line-up of speakers.”

He added that the summit would provide a global platform for the Bermuda insurance industry’s leading voices.

The focus of the event will be on transformation and innovation in the industry, with a heavy focus on technology.

“According to PwC’s 2018 Global CEO Survey, two-thirds of insurance CEOs report increasing pressure on their organisations to deliver business results under shorter timelines,” Mr Wightman said.

“This at a time when the majority of insurance CEOs report that theirs is one of the most disrupted industries. The pressure for urgent and fundamental change is mounting within companies and across the industry. This is the backdrop to our PwC Insurance Summit.”

Toby Saunders, head of commercial, banking and finance, FT Live, says: “FT Live are pleased to add the PwC Insurance Summit and partner with PwC, one of the top 50 global brands.

“FT Live oversees an extensive portfolio of industry-leading and thematically stimulating conferences and summits around the globe. FT Live has a reputation for delivering very senior audiences at world class thought-leadership events across the globe and this summit will be no exception.”

The agenda will include trends in insurtech, blockchain, robotics and artificial intelligence; opportunities for growth; cyber-risk, the evolving nature of risk; alternative capital; US tax reform and more.

PwC added that panels will be creative and interactive with topics explored in a variety of formats including keynote presentations, interviews, discussions, and audience Q&A, making use of technology to enhance engagement.

The full agenda and speakers will be released next month, PwC added.
