Learn how to think like an entrepreneur

An eight-week course on entrepreneurship is to be offered by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.“Think Like an Entrepreneur” is designed to teach entrepreneurs how to test the viability of a business idea and create an entrepreneurial mindset to reach entrepreneurial goals. The course is driven by the award-winning, internationally-recognised Ice House Entrepreneurship Programme.Participants will learn how to identify and evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities, establish goals, manage risks, and build a successful brand. The initiative will aid in developing cross-discipline entrepreneurial attitudes, behaviours and skills, the BEDC said. The curriculum draws on eight fundamental concepts, and will be facilitated by Donte Hunt, micro, small and medium enterprise officer at the BEDC, and Dennis Carter, the organisation’s junior MSME officer. Both are accredited Ice House facilitators certified to deliver the programme, which has been presented by the BEDC since 2015.Course graduate Selena Bean said: “Taking the course showed me that most small businesses find it difficult when starting up. It reinforced the saying ‘you get out what you put in’ and taught me that I am the driving force behind the success of my business.”Former student Arin Weller added: “This course challenged me to think bigger, to visualise success, and intentionally make choices that lead to my goals. I gained a renewed confidence in myself and my capabilities.” Mr Hunt said: “We are excited to be guiding another group of aspiring entrepreneurs through the Ice House programme curriculum and look forward to seeing how the course inspires and empowers them to really think like entrepreneurs. He added: “We know from past cohorts that there are dozens of creative and unique business ideas floating around in people’s heads, and what this course does is help participants develop the mindset, skills and confidence to start working towards creating a tangible business.” The programme will be delivered at the BEDC office, Sofia House, 48 Church Street, Hamilton on Tuesdays from February 4 until March 24 from 6pm until 8.15pm. The cost is $275, which includes course materials, the book Who Owns the Ice House? and access to an online learning portal. • For more information or to register, see www.bedc.bm, e-mail info@bedc.bm, or call 292-5570.
