The deadline for the Commission of Inquiry to submit its report to Michael Dunkley has been extended.

After the hearing schedule and timeline had been agreed, the panel had been expected to provide its final report on December 31 last year.

However, the Commission asked Mr Dunkley for more time to work on its report and the Premier agreed an extension until the end of January.

“I can confirm that the Commission asked the Premier for and he agreed to an extension until the end of January, and this apparently was confirmed by the Premier in a pre-Christmas interview with VSB radio news,” a spokesperson for the Commission said.

In September, The Royal Gazette reported that the Commission would be given until the end of the year to complete its investigation.

The panel, chaired by Sir Anthony Evans, was formed to look into the findings of the Auditor-General’s report on the Consolidated Fund for the 2010, 2011, and 2012 financial years.

Originally it was given 20 weeks to complete its work but has now been granted a second extension.

In addition to Sir Anthony, an international jurist and former Bermuda Court of Appeal judge, lawyer John Barritt, businesswoman Fiona Luck and businessman Kumi Bradshaw are members on the Commission.
