Man admits importing cannabis

A 30-year-old Pembroke man has admitted importing nearly 4kg of cannabis into Bermuda.

Plant material with an estimated street value of between $68,800 and $196,625 was found in a workout bench belonging to Kieron Francis as his bags were checked at LF Wade International Airport, Magistrates’ Court heard this morning.

He pleaded guilty to importing 3,932g from the United States for sale and distribution on November 10 last year.

The court was told the plant material was handed to police and the defendant was taken to Hamilton Police Station.

During a subsequent search of Francis’s property on Crane Lane police found digital scales and a metal grinder with traces of plant material.

Defence lawyer Marc Daniels requested bail for his client which was granted by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, who ordered a Social Inquiry Report.

Francis must relinquish his travel documents and has been bailed for $25,000 with a surety of the same amount. He must report to Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday before sentencing on June 30.
