A betting shop employee has admitted trying to fix a football wager last month to win an $8,156 payout.

Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday that Alanae Butterfield, a clerk at Hamilton bookmaker Sea Horses, handed her manager Lee Beauchamp the winning slip on April 21.

The 21-year-old from St George’s claimed that her brother had placed the bet over the phone.

However, a review of the security cameras confirmed that Butterfield had stamped a blank betting form and filled in the correct results once the football matches had finished.

After arriving at her workplace the following day, the defendant was questioned about the situation and eventually admitted falsifying the betting slip.

She was then arrested and again acknowledged her guilt to police.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a Social Inquiry Report on Butterfield, who has no previous convictions, and adjourned sentencing until July 6.

He released the defendant on $5,000 bail with a like surety.
