Southampton man fined for public fight

A Southampton man was fined after he admitted being involved in a fight on Horseshoe Road.

However, the defendant, 29-year-old Quan Marley Lowe, told the court he was acting in defence of a friend.

The court heard that at around 11pm on October 16, police responded to a report of an altercation at the Southampton Rangers Sports Club. When they arrived on the scene, they noticed two men fighting on Horseshoe Road.

The officers attempted to intervene, getting between the men, but Lowe attempted to continue the fight, telling police: “I don’t give a f***. Get out of my face.”

He was subsequently arrested and charged with affray.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Lowe pleaded guilty to the charge, telling the court: “It was a fight. A friend got knocked out and I was trying to keep the guy away from him. I’m sorry for my actions.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Lowe $500 for the offence.
