Sandys man admits sexually abusing children

A 45-year-old Sandys man has admitted sexually assaulting two children.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court this morning, Gladwin Daniels pleaded guilty to six charges including showing offensive material to a child, touching a child under the age of 16 for sexual purposes, inciting the child to touch him for sexual purposes and committing an indecent act in the presence of a child.

The offences took place on an unknown date between January 1, 2014, and July 17, 2016.

According to prosecutor Maria Sofianos, Daniels was arrested and charged after the children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, disclosed the abuse to a relative.

She added that the Crown will be seeking a lengthy prison sentence.

Meanwhile, defence council Alexandra Wheatley told the court that Daniels had been an outpatient at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute for 23 years.

She requested a Social Inquiry Report, a drug assessment and a psychiatric report prior to Daniels’ return to court on March 31 for sentencing.

Daniels’ bail was extended.
