A St George’s man admitted breaking into a St David’s business and taking cash and gift certificates.

Kyajee Wilson, 20, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to entering Amber Fisheries as a trespasser, stealing $450 worth of items and damaging the building. The court heard that staff closed the business on Marginal Wharf on the afternoon of November 18 last year and locked up for the day.

When they arrived the next morning, they discovered filing cabinets and an air conditioner lying in the road.

The business had been ransacked and cash and gift certificates had been taken.

CCTV cameras on the property were damaged during the incident, but police were able to obtain footage of the crime.

Wilson was subsequently arrested. He denied being involved in the incident in a police interview, but admitted to officers that the person seen in the CCTV footage resembled him.

Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe ordered a social inquiry report and drug assessment to be carried out on Wilson and released him on $1,500 bail.

The defendant will return to court on April 3 to be sentenced.
