Man admits cannabis offence

A 29-year-old Sandys man has had his case referred to drug treatment court after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis.

It stems from an incident that occurred in Pembroke on December 2, 2016.

Magistrates’ Court heard that officers were dispatched to reports of a person drinking in public at the bus terminal located on Victoria Street at around 4.45pm.

At the scene, police said Stefan Durrant became agitated during questioning and was arrested.

During a subsequent search, 6.97 grams of marijuana contained within eight clear plastic bags was discovered within his backpack.

“That’s mine, I smoke it,” the court heard of his response when questioned about the find by police.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin referred the matter to drug treatment court and ordered drug and alcohol assessment.

Bail for Durrant was set at $1,000.
