Man charged with importing cocaine

A Southampton man was this morning charged with importing more than 1½ kilograms of cocaine into the island.

Charmari Burns, 23, appeared in Magistrates’ Court to face charges of possessing cocaine with intent to supply and importing the controlled drug into the island.

Both offences allegedly took place on October 27 last year in St George’s, and were said to involve 1.667 kilograms of cocaine.

Mr Burns was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard by the Supreme Court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo released Mr Burns on $100,000 bail with a like surety, ordering that he also surrender his travel documents and report to Hamilton Police Station three times a week.
