Reports ordered on traffic offender

Court reports have been ordered for a 43-year-old Devonshire man who pleaded guilty to a series of traffic offences this morning.

Appearing in Magistrates’ Court, Tyrone Simmons admitted driving without a licence, as well as two counts of driving an unlicensed car and having no insurance.

The offences happened in February and April and Simmons told the court that he has a heroin problem and was using the car to pick up his drugs.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered a Social Inquiry Report and adjourned sentencing until August 11, granting $1,500 bail with a like surety.

He also disqualified Simmons, who has outstanding fines of $1,200 as well as 23 active demerit points, from driving for six months.

• In a separate matter, a 56-year-old man racked up fines of more than $2,500 and 20 demerit points for traffic offences.

Wendell Davis pleaded guilty to two counts of driving without a licence, two counts of having no insurance, and one count of riding an unlicensed cycle.

The offences happened in January and February 2016. Mr Tokunbo fined him $1,000 twice for having no insurance, $150 twice for driving without a licence and $250 for the unlicensed cycle.
