Two men were banned from the road this morning after they each admitted drinking and driving.

Joseph Maynard, 34, pleaded guilty to a single count of driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit in an incident on National Heroes Day.

The court heard that at around 10.35pm, officers on mobile patrol in Hamilton Parish noticed a car, driven by Maynard, repeatedly cross the middle line.

The officers stopped him in the area of Walsingham Lane and noticed that his breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were glazed.

Maynard admitted having two beers earlier in the evening and a breath test revealed he had 165mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood — just over double the legal limit.

Meanwhile, Juvonne Cann, 30, pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit after an incident on March 6 in which he crashed into a wall.

Prosecutor Cindy Clarke told the court that at around 4am that day, officers received a report of a single vehicle collision near Sticks and Stones in Paget.

When they arrived on scene they noticed multiple bike fragments in the road and Cann, appearing to be asleep, in the business’s parking lot with a damaged motorcycle.

Cann told officers that he was driving when he came too close to the nearside wall. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained.

While there, he agreed to allow his blood to be tested for alcohol, with the tests revealing he was over the legal limit.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined both men $1,200 for the offence, banning them from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
