A Warwick man was banned from driving for a year yesterday after he refused to take a breath test.

Magistrates’ Court heard Damon Robinson, 40, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday.

Police clocked Robinson on Crow Lane near Hamilton travelling at 68km/h, nearly double the speed limit, at about 1.20am.

Officers signalled to Robinson to stop, but he continued until he was pulled over near the junction of Reid Street and Court Street.

Police arrested Robinson after they noticed his breath smelled of alcohol and he was unsteady on his feet.

He later refused to take a breath test at Hamilton Police Station. Robinson apologised for his failure to stop and claimed he had not seen the officers. He further claimed he gave police several breath samples, despite a guilty plea.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, in addition to the ban, fined Robinson $800 for refusing to take a breath test and $300 for speeding.
